ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMME:

The goals of P. Rotola-Pukkila Oy's environmental programme are environmentally sound long-term strategies for waste treatment, energy policy and use of raw materials and fittings.

1. WASTE TREATMENT

Packaging waste

Practically all packaging is manufactured by the company. We mainly purchase raw materials that only require a minimum amount of packaging materials. We sort and collect all used cardboard and paper for recycling. Metal rails are shredded, stored and sent for recycling. Plastic packaging materials are sorted and partially re-used as padding in export packages.

Production waste

All our production waste can be burnt and it is all used in producing our own energy.

Other waste

Only very small amounts of any other waste are produced.

Hazardous waste

As a result of the nature of our production, only very small amounts of hazardous waste are produced. We sort all hazardous waste and deliver it to Säiliö Cistern PUTS Ab Oy.

Our transport machinery oils are sorted into black oils and oil filters into solid oil waste. Used car batteries are sorted and stored before they are shipped for further processing.

All clear oils are sorted for re-use.

Neon lamps and batteries are sorted and delivered to Säiliö Cistern PUTS Ab Oy.

We use modern, UV hardened lacquers and stains and water soluble stains, so very few solvents come from washing lacquers and stains. We sort water and solvent based waste and deliver them to Säiliö Cistern PUTS Ab Oy.

2. USE OF ENERGY

Heating energy

We get all our heating energy from our factory's wastewood. The wastewood is incinerated in two modern incinerators. In addition, we collect the heat energy from discharged air with heat transporters. We also use wastewood to produce heat energy for the manufacturing process.

Electricity

We have two generators. One is used to produce the day-time electricity during the winter, the other is used in the energy production of the surface finishing line. All excess heat from the generators is collected, so the energy benefit ratio is excellent.

3. RAW MATERIALS AND ACCESSORIES

We prefer to purchase raw materials from reliable, preferably domestic suppliers that take environmental matters into consideration. All our raw materials comply with E1 norms as a very minimum requirement.

Veneer

About half of the veneer we use is domestic birch. Beech, oak and mahogany are purchased from reliable suppliers. We sort the veneers so that a minimal percentage goes to waste.

Particle board

We purchase all our particle board from Finnish suppliers. Particle board can be manufactured from wood chips from the sawmill industry, so the use of particle board favours ecological and energy-efficient use of raw materials.

Glues

We purchase all our glues from the Finnish company Kiilto Oy. In our opinion, the company takes good care of environmental matters. We only use water-soluble glues.

Lacquers

The lacquers are supplied by the Swedish company, Becker-Arcroma-Klintens Ab. Our surface finishing line uses water-based stains and completely solvent-free UV hardened lacquers.

Packaging

All our products are delivered in recyclable cardboard boxes.
